I appreciate his ability to refuse victimization regardless of his childhood of severe neglect and abuse. I like his way of embracing the odd person he came out to be while accepting the past for what it was. I like his way of speaking of “healing” from trauma as if it were a concept invented by Oprah where the crowd jumps up and down and claps loudly when in reality he believes that sometimes we just don’t heal from pain. Sometimes the pain is too great and we just learn to live with it and make it more bearable.
