Words of Inspiration: May

I am one of those people who can become so moved by a quote that I am tempted to tattoo it on my forehead so I never forget it. I spend days or even weeks in a spell by the powerful words, it makes me feel more equipped to deal with life.

Here are four quotes that I have come across that have deeply inspired me, I hope they do the same for you!

  • “What is success? To laugh often and much;  To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”

    – Ralph Waldo Emerson
When I become concerned that I am not be succeeding in all the traditional ways I feel I should be, I remember this incredible quote. I love that last line, To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. It gives me goosebumps, what a beautiful way to view success.

  • “A flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it. It just blooms.”

    – Zen Shin
I often find myself plagued with comparisons and it becomes overwhelming, to say the least. These kinds of thought patterns do nothing but cause misery and cast aside any accomplishment I have made. I have to remind myself to use others as inspiration to get better, not a tool to feel worse.

  • “In the end, we’ll all become stories.”

     – Margaret Atwood
I suppose this is quote is a depressing thought, but a reality we all face. reading these words makes me want to live my live fully, it causes me to imagine decades down the line when my grandchildren gaze at a photo of me and think about the woman I was when I was young. I won’t let you down grandchildren to be!

  • “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”

    Chinese proverb
I love this, so often we think can’t do something because its too late. We berate ourselves for not chasing after opportunities and wonder why we should even bother. But the thing is, its never too late to be whoever you want to be. You can start today.
