Words of Inspiration: December

Hello world! In case you (somehow) didn’t know, Donald Trump was elected the President of the United States. If this is new information to you, I’m actually impressed in your superhuman ability to select which information penetrates your brain. Anytime I opened any form of social media after the election results it felt as if my hair blew back from a flood of screams, shrieks and shaking fists. Scrolling through facebook the day after the election felt like a virtual battlefield of bleak, hopelessness.

While I too was shocked to learn that someone like Trump slithered his way to presidency, I see no point (or value) in adding more negativity to the barren wasteland that has come as a result of this. In all honesty, I could care less about politics. I’d prefer to talk about anything else over the US elections. Like the dust particles floating through my cubicle at work, for example. But considering the amount of sadness and despair that radiated across social media, I thought I’d throw in some seriously needed inspiration to those who seem like they’ve lost all hope in humanity. The loss of hope is far more detrimental than anything else, don’t let that go.

With that said, I suggest we focus our energy on more uplifting things. Because in actual fact, there’s a lot of positive things happening all around us every single day. They just don’t make the news. But I assure you, if you keep your eyes open, you’ll see it too.

Consider these quotes a warm hug, from me right to you. And please, whatever you do, don’t lose that spark of hope! ♥

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

– Margaret Mead. I’m so inspired by Ms Mead! Not only for uttering these magnificent (and hopeful) words but also for her contribution to the world of anthropology. In the 1920’s, at only twenty four years old she set sail for Samoa to research gender roles. People must have gone absolutely insane to hear of some woman leaving the kitchen (gasp!) to set off on such an adventure with the goal of contributing to the world of social anthropology. I think that’s just the coolest thing.

“However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there is life, there is hope.”

– Stephen Hawking. While there is life, there is hope, this gives me goosebumps. No matter where you are, no matter what you’ve done, no matter what’s happening around you, you can always do something. It’s never too late!

“You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy. So let them go, let go of them. I tie no weights to my ankles.”

-C. JoyBell C. So whether it’s a political leader, or an ex-boyfriend, or that one thing you did 7 years ago… do yourself a favour and drop it. Let it go, move on. It serves no purpose now.

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of places, if only one remembers to turn on the light.”

Dumbledore. To all my Potter fans out there, this one’s for you.
