Words of Inspiration: December

Good morning from the rugged wilderness of Tasmania! I have yet to see a Tasmanian devil spinning down the street like a vortex but I’m keeping an eye out. I will report back when I do.

This month’s inspiration post is simply dedicated to being alive! What an incredible thing it is to be alive at this moment; to feel your heart beating in your chest and blood pumping through your veins. As cruel and difficult as life may sometimes be, it really is a miracle that we’re here! This article that explains the probability of you being born is about one in 400 trillion. Woah.

So with that, I raise a glass (of beer, or tea, or whatever) to a new year! Here’s to a fresh start, a blank new canvas. May you paint, create and ruthlessly edit the life you want. Not only do you deserve it but you should righteously pursue it! You’re one in 400 trillion!

Happy 2017 ♥

“I like the smell of earth, the touch of waves, the taste of berries. the sight of trees, the sound of laughter, and the feeling of being fully alive.”

-Carl Rose. What an absolutely beautiful way to encapsulate the beauty of being alive, I love existing to0!

I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you’re making mistakes, then you’re making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something. So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make new mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life. Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever.

– Neil Gaiman. It’s so important to change the way we view mistakes. Every failure, or hiccup is a chance to grow and learn. Mistakes are necessary, don’t be afraid to make them! Which falls nicely into this next one…

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.”

-J.K. Rowling. The creator of Harry Potter knows what’s up. I love this quote.

“Churches are good for prayer, but so are garages and cars and mountains and showers and dance floors.”

Anne Lamot. Find a way to release, to flow, to switch off, to play, and to enjoy this life. For as little or as long as it lasts.
