7 ways to cope when you’re really low

I asked some of my dear friends how they managed to cope when life knocks them down. They all came back with varying responses. Each of their unique personalities shines through their words and I found it so touching to hear what helps them, I learned a lot about my friends reading their coping strategies.

Look how far you’ve come

It’s important to remember that we got through the most difficult times in our past. We’re still here. It’s so empowering to recount the difficult paths we’ve been forced to take.

10 things to let go

We hold on to so many things that cause us unnecessary pain, stress, and suffering.

The need for approval

If only there was a switch to mute these critical internal voices. If only I could open the squeaky doors behind my skull and examine my brain as if it were a recording studio filled with buttons and dials. Once I’m there, I could see which one of them were dialled to the max and gently bring it down.

An ode to slowing time

I don’t want to blink and suddenly be 90 years old sitting in an old folks home saying to the nurses, “well time sure flies doesn’t it!” I want to say, “wow cool I’m still alive. I can even still remember each decade of my life with vibrancy and detail!” At least try my best anyway. Surely there’s a way to make time at least feel a little slower?

The voyage through a broken heart

I saw my love life like a voyage across the seas, setting sail to explore different places and ideas. I could not possibly set up permanent base on the first place I stumbled upon. I wanted my heart to be set free and experience what else was out there.

5 Things I’ve Learnt

…In the past two weeks I got back from Australia on January 4th refreshed and completely content. My vacation was great, but then again how could it not be? It’s Australia, the land of kangaroos, sunshine and beaches. I felt a revived sense of confidence in myself. Before leaving for Australia I was feeling quite down, […]

The end of summer always makes me feel melancholic. ⁣ ⁣ "Wherever you go, there you are" certainly rings true in these moments. Even in Australia.⁣ ⁣ It's a time of reflection as I think back on why I've never really been a winter person. ⁣ ⁣ I can remember a stage in my life when winters were filled with excitement and adventure. When I was about 5 years old, Elizabeth was 6, and we were living in Ottawa. The temperature would go down to -20. Nowadays, the thought of living in a city that gets that cold absolutely repels me.⁣ ⁣ But as a kid, winter was the season for skating on the Rideau Canal, building snowmen, tobogganing...⁣ ⁣ Behind our house was a large snow pile that was dumped from snow trucks clearing off neighborhood streets. To my sister and I, this snow pile was Mount Everest. We would break off twigs from branches and pretend they were ice picks, using them to make our way up the treacherous mountain, screaming at each other through our make-believe walkie-talkies. "Roger! Are you gonna make it? Roger! Do you copy?!" this game was my favorite because the set-up was real, we were on Everest on a complex mission that could cost us our lives. ⁣ ⁣ I remember one fascinating game that went on for so long, my mum had to call us in. We ran home and discovered we both had a little bit of frostbite on our nose and cheeks. I remember looking at my face in the mirror and seeing that my cheeks had turned white from the cold. I could not believe it, it felt like our game was real, just like the movies.
Nothing beats that mountain air 🏔✨

Summertime sweetness!☀️
If only I could ship this little munchkin over to Australia for a much needed cuddle. I’m quite sure seeing a kangaroo is on his bucket-list of things to do. Actually yes it is, we’ve had this conversation before. Kangaroos are his favorite animal.
